A design degree to impact the world

How you look at the world is who you are as a designer. My goal in getting a degree in Industrial Design is to carve a place for my view of the world through my designs. This is quite a lofty undertaking when thinking on a global scale. How I will achieve this is yet to be determined; however, I know that the skills I will gain from the school of design are what can take me there. As of now, I am most intrigued by furniture design. My hope is to one day create clean innovative furniture that makes since in its use. I want to bring logic and beauty together to create timeless furniture that pushes the world’s concept of furniture design further. What I love most about industrial design is that if done well, it should feel as if the new elements you created are common sense. One company that I feel does this seamlessly is IKEA. I admire their modern, uncluttered and aesthetically pleasing look.  For this reason, I hope to also study abroad in Sweden’s furniture district. With the experience abroad and a strong foundation of design fundamentals that KU’s school of design I truly believe that I will one day accomplish my design goals.
