On Photography Response

This article focused on how photography is viewed. My favorite point made was that a photograph has an evidential quality to it. If someone is presented an image of a strange creature in the form of a painting and told that this animal was real they might have a hard time believing it. Yet, if they were then presented a photo of the creature they would then have a very hard time disputing it. This quality in photography sets it apart from other art forms in its usefulness. Photography is used to capture something. It could be a moment, a person or a thing. By taking this image from its original place in time we are able to travel through time and space. We can look back at a crime scene on the day it happened. We can see the faces of our ancestors. We travel the world from the pages of a book. Like the article pointed out, the photos hold their truth better than a painting ever could.
