Statement of purpose
The object I chose for my vessel was a key. Not simply any key but on
that contained a memory from a happier time. In the past few year my family has
hit hard times. The economy has not been kind to our finances. The key was from
a vacation we had taken together before our money situation had gone south. I
also times out that it was the first trip we had taken after my father had
survived his cancer surgery. The vacation was not too extravagant. We simply
went to Eureka Springs Arkansas and stayed in an old hotel and enjoyed the
small town together. It was called the Crescent Hotel which was one of the
factors that played in my design. The overall shape was a keyhole with a
rectangle compartment inside. The top portion of the keyhole’s inside was
another box. This smaller box was shaped as a crescent. I chose walnut wood to
give it a more aged look given that the hotel was built in the 1800s. Key would
be placed in the rectangle portion. The hidden box was to represent another
element of the hotel. The hotel was originally a hospital with a dark past.
This is something they hype up now and promote it as a haunted hotel. The
hidden box is to add an element of unknown just like the supernatural aspect of
the hotel.
