Typography about language by Ronnie Bruce
Written Reflection on “Parts of a Letter”:
I never realized how much thought was put into the creation of a text or the impact it could have on an interpretation of a message. By simply adjusting the stroke width of a “W” you can project a certain feel and connotation to the word it spells out. For example: “Word” “Word.” The text you use can also dictate the assumed time period. It may also show formality. Typography is an age-old art form that many overlook but no one can deny its power to create a distinct tone and feel.

Design Q&A response:
Design is an expression of purpose and a method of action this is how Eames described it in the short film. I thought it he had a very rigid view of what he considered design. Though I do agree with some of what he said I see design as an art and unlimited in its expressions. Part of the beauty of design is that we are both right in our views because design is what you make it.
Design impact
The impact of design on my life was a very positive one. I have always been a creative person. This creativity has shown itself in many ways throughout my life. As a child I was constantly designing without even understanding what it meant. When my family would go out to eat I always entertained myself through arranging the sugar and sweetener packets on the table into patterns of pink and white. When it came to my meal I saw not food but the materials that held my next art project in them. Later, the designer in me came out through photography. In framing, composing and capturing an image I was designing through a lens. This grew into a passion of mine as I explored it further in the photo classes I was able to take in high school. Photography gave me the creative outlet I so craved. Then when I started college I took a design course and I was hooked. There I discovered that the creative disciplines of photography I so loved could be combined into this thing called design. Design has always been a part of my life weather or not I realized it at the time. Now, as my understanding of design grows so do the possibilities of how it can further impact my life and its direction.
Good Design: Apple ipod
What principles of good design dose it fit into?
Good design must be innovative concept and technology. Then ipod was the first of its kind and its sleek and simple design makes it a cut above the rest visually.
Why do you think it is good?
They designed the ipod in a minimalistic manner. They rethought and improved the technology used to listen to music and placed it in an innovatively simple design.
What makes it good?
It is user friendly and logical. There are no extraneous buttons or cords. It was pleasing in the simplicity of its look and cutting edge in its technology making it a good design.
Good Design: Travel Mug
Good design is the blending of aesthetics and functionality. The reusable travel mug is just that. The design is an innovative approach to the typical one-use coffee cup. The sustainable materials make it durable enough to withstand the rigors of a morning routine. It is environmentally friendly in its reusability. The sleeve is made of rubber as to prevent the cup from slipping from a hand. Not only is it functional but attractive as well. The use of simple colors and understated detail gives this travel mug a clean look. The mug itself was less than six dollars which makes it a reasonable investment in a healthier planet.
